A multi-team media day in Burbank
Providence High School in Burbank brought us back after volleyball for a full fall sports media day. A multi-team day is a different animal than a single-sport shoot. Rosters rotate through on a schedule, every team needs the same quality of team photo, and nobody wants to wait around while lights get moved.

One lighting kit, built for the gym
The kit does not change: four Westcott FJ400 strobes and a Canon R5 with the 70-200 and the 24-105.
This day was indoors, so we killed nearly all the ambient light until the overhead gym lights barely registered, then built the picture from two rim lights in back to two mains in front. A little haze gives that light something to travel through. The look is contrasty and cinematic on purpose.
Keeping a busy day moving
Every team follows the same order. Team photo first, then seniors, then coaches. After that we re-rig and shoot individuals. Each athlete gets the standard yearbook portrait plus stylized frames and action with real movement in them. We are after personality, not just a number on a jersey.
Running it that way means the last team of the day gets the same attention as the first.
